Although Guy Fawkes was labeled a terrorist and anarchist, he was named the 30th Greatest Briton in a 2002 BBC poll.
Few characters in history have divided people as much as Guy Fawkes. Some despise him – considering him to be a great traitor of the throne and a general anarchist who meant to cause great harm for little meaning. Others celebrate him – viewing him as a hero who was beaten down repeatedly and stood up knowing the cost he would suffer to fight against tyranny and oppression. No matter how you look at the face of the Gunpowder Plot, none can argue that it isn’t a crucial moment in history and one that will be remembered forever.
Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Conversation Factoid Icebreaker: Members of the Gunpowder Plot were all hung, drawn and quartered EXCEPT for Guy Fawkes. While awaiting his turn on the gallows, he leapt to his death and broke his neck.
