Bunny Island used to be home to several poisonous gas factories during WWII. The Japanese Imperial Army was producing tons of mustard gas, phosgene and other types and rabbits were brought in to test the effectiveness of the toxins. When the island was taken over by the Americans, those poor bunnies were euthanized and the groundwater was found to be contaminated.
In 1971, a group of school children released 8 rabbits on the island and the fast-breeding mammals have multiplied into the thousands. There are no predators on the island – no dogs, no cats, no hunting – so the bunnies grew up in virtual paradise. They are fed by tourists and, since the water is bad, bottled water is flown in for the humans and bunnies. The feral rabbits rule the island and play with tourists.
On the flip side of cute and cuddly there is North Sentinel Island near India. The last Stone Age tribe that has yet to make contact with the outside world resides there. This tribe is so brutal that any helicopters or ships passing by are attacked by waves of arrows. No vessel has successfully landed on this island.
