Happy Independence Day!
Fourth of July means a lot more than a mini-vacay from work, lazy days in the pool and the sweet scent of hot dogs and hamburgers searing on the grill. Sure, those are all amazing in their own right but the only reason we are able to enjoy such things has to do with why we celebrate Independence Day in the first place.
Of course, we cheer America’s birth and the break away from British rule. We watch gorgeous fireworks displays that represent the hard battle for independence and wave flags in triumph of an underdog victory. Independence Day represents freedom. Freedom from tyranny. We can certainly celebrate all people and moments in time where those who were brave stood up against wrong in order to give others the chance to truly live.
Without these battles, victories great and small against oppression, we wouldn’t be able to have the simple ability to walk around freely, to open businesses, to shop how we want, to learn about every topic under the sun, to become resourceful and grow, to worship, to help, support and achieve. We definitely wouldn’t be allowed to pursue our passions or live our best selves. And, so, we raise a glass, tip a hat or bellow cheers for the magnificence of freedom itself and all those who have ever had a hand in providing, protecting or pursuing it.
