Today’s Weekly Calendar Fun Fact:
The Anglo-Saxons called January “Wulfmonath” because it was the month that hungry wolves would come scavenging at people’s doors.
The month of January was actually named after the Roman god Janus, who was always depicted as having two heads. His older face was looking towards the past, or the year just passed, while his younger face was looking towards the future, or the year ahead. The Romans were too busy building an empire to focus much on oral traditions like the Greeks but their pantheon was full of interesting tales nonetheless.
Of the lesser known facts about January, it is the second winter month and the only month where the North Pole is colder than the South Pole. A fun conversation starter is that January 1st is both the furthest away and closest day to December 31st.
