Most of the time, clutter becomes such an issue that the only reasonable solution is to get a container from your local dumpster rental service. While that does solve the problem of removing junk and living clutter-free, what do you do in the mean-time?
Life is hectic and we tend to buy new items and put older or broken ones to the side until we can deal with them. With all of the bustle of our schedules, it’s sometimes easier to just put things aside until you can manage them better. This works great until you realize that you forgot to handle things months ago and are now staring at a packed guest bedroom or a garage stuffed to the gills. To avoid finding yourself in the same predicament every few months, it may be time to implement a few tactics into your routine.
Grab a cardboard box or use your laundry basket and walk around a room. Put items that you’ve been meaning to get rid of in there. If you haven’t used it in a year – it needs to go. If it’s broken and you replaced it with a new one – it needs to go. If it holds no sentimental value and you haven’t thought about it in ages – it needs to go. Using this mindset, do two sweeps through the the room and then take that box/basket directly outside and dump into your recycling bin, garbage bin or box that is going to charity.
Taking ten minutes on your day off or on a weekend to do this will save you headaches down the road. By keeping to this every month, you can stay on top of the clutter and have a clean, efficient home or work space. This will also do wonders for your emotional and mental health because you won’t be feeling suffocated or frustrated by mess. It will also save you money by not having to consistently rent a dumpster to manage space. And the biggest pro of all, you won’t have to waste an entire day or days just to remove all of the junk. Ten minutes every few weeks is much more palatable than losing entire days just to rid clutter.
