The most important thing you can do when working with your dumpster rental is to stay safe!
Take Your Time! – Demos and clean outs seem to fly by fast but don’t get caught up in racing to the dumpster. Be safe and focus on each task. Walk at a normal pace and handle everything with care. The fastest way to end up hurt is by rushing.
Protect Your Hands! – When you’re tossing stuff into the dumpster, it’s a high probability that you’re using your hands to do so. Wear safety gloves at all times. These will give you a better grip on the debris and keep your hands from being scratched on nails or jagged edges.
Test The Weight! – Before you begin to heave an object, test how heavy it is. Some items will likely require you to ask another person to help carry them. Don’t be afraid or ashamed to ask for help. Having a peer aid you is far better than throwing your back out and winding up in traction.
Use Proper Lifting! – Bend your knees, keep your back straight and keep the load close to your body. This is the proper way to life an item. Avoid twisting or jerking and never try to dry-lift without bending your knees.
Sharps Box! – Put all broken glass or sharp objects in a container before you haul it to the dumpster. This will keep you from acquiring a mess of cuts and possible infections.
Use The Door! – Many dumpsters come with a walk-in door so use it! Instead of trying to heave heavy items over the top, which can result in you tearing a muscle or having the debris fall back onto you, simply walk it in the door. This gives you much more control over the item and allows you to pack the dumpster more efficiently so you can save space.
No Restricted Items! – Keep prohibited items OUT of the dumpster. They are prohibited for a reason. Most of the time these items contain chemicals or materials that can cause harm to you or even ignite under the right circumstances. Items like paint, electronics, appliances and pest sprays need to be recycled properly and not tossed carelessly into dumpsters.
